How have you seen community food programs- gardens, school lunch, food pantries,

I have seen around my house a school PS.3 close to 23rd street. That school offers free lunch to everyone on Fridays, both Kids and adults are welcomed to sit down in the school and enjoy a meal. I remember there was a year that the school was written all over the local newspaper, for there generazate of donating food to those around the area. I remember that around the same time the awareness of the school food drive the church across the street started a program to give food to the homeless, until this day now both programs are active to anyone who is hungry and in need to be warm.

LOCOVORE!

What is a locovore?  Many of us know what a carnivore is or a herbivore but what is Locovore? And why many people are becoming aware of this term. Well a Locovore is a person who ONLY eats food that is produce around a certain distance from their home. I believe for a person to be a locovore it is extremely hard since most of us live in the metropolitan area eating something that was planted in the backyard of a building, won’t be such a great idea.  I personally cant live without mushroom burger, and the commit from home to the restaurant is about 30min, so I personally doubt I can become a locovore.

Organic Mania!

ORGANIC organic!

The word "Organic" has become a popular words since the past couple of years, it  is being used in all different concepts regarding food, Whether you are strolling down the fruit isle or to the meat section, you are bound to have a huge logo saying " ORGANIC".
Behind the labels the FDA guarantees us with labels telling us that this particular item is indeed an organic product.
being brain washed by our media who are constantly  telling us that if we are eating organic products we can have a healthier lifestyle and fight against obesity . Although, we all have to stop and think if what we are being told is for our benefits or there. The price of an organic lettuce can range up to $5 whereas a “regular” lettuce can be found for $2, personally on my budget I cant afford to pay a few bucks more just being it label “organic”
On my personal belief I don’t truly trust what the labels say, since there has been items that has been approved by the FDA and within few months there is reports of having misleads of what has been approved. From my understanding I think that certain chemicals that are found in our food is beneficial to us since it eliminated certain bacteria that are being grown.

#1 Write about what you eat. In general, what are your go - to foods, where are they from?

  • As a full time student and a part time worker, I manage my eating habits according to the weekly ability to cook. Although I would admit my “GO-TO” food will differently be chicken since it extremely fast to whip up a quick plate that contains chicken whereas red meat I found it that it takes up more time and the smell that is left at home is undesirable.  With a combination to chicken would be vegetable or rice. All my food are purchased in supermarkets such as associated, Chelsea market as well in Brooklyn where there is an open supermarket where they sell fresh fruits, vegetables for a cheap price.
